Couples celebrate marriages

Michael J. and Anna Antoniades Balaskas of Tarpon Springs celebrated their 60th anniversary recently with a party at their home. The couple was married Feb. 4, 1934, in Campbell, Ohio. They owned the Sunshine Restaurant in Tarpon Springs. The Balaskases, who came here in 1946 from Ohio, have four daughters, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Nicholas and Felicia Nole of Clearwater celebrated their 55th anniversary Feb. 11 with a vacation to Indian River Plantation Resort on Hutchinson Island in Stuart. They were married Feb. 11, 1939, in Utica, N.Y., and came here in 1980 from Utica. He worked for Griffith Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y., and she worked for the Utica school system. They are members of St. Michael the Archangel Church and Loyal Order of the Moose, both in Clearwater. They have two children and four grandchildren.

Ernest and Dorothy Cupernall of Indian Rocks Beach celebrated their 50th anniversary at a dinner party with their children. The couple was married Feb. 25, 1944, in New York. He is a Navy veteran of World War II and a 20-year employee for Schenectady Chemicals. She worked 10 years for Publishers Clearinghouse in New York and 10 years for Seminole Mall Bakery in Seminole. The Cupernalls, who came here in 1983 from New York, have five children and 10 grandchildren.

Louis and Antonia Geanopoulos of Palm Harbor celebrated their 50th anniversary with more than 100 friends and relatives at a dinner/reception in December at Spartan Manor in New Port Richey. The couple was married Feb. 27, 1944, in Schenectady, N.Y. They owned restaurants 35 years in Schenectady. They are members of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and Pan Cretan Society Orange Blossom Chapter, both in Clearwater, and Laconia Society of Tampa Bay. She is a member of Greek Ladies Philoptohos Society and Daughters of Penelope. The Geanopouloses, who came here in 1987 from Schenectady, have three daughters and six grandchildren.

Election

These people recently were elected to the Clearwater Club board of governors: Joyce Baskin, Phil Henderson, Lance Hutchinson, Dr. Joseph Kuebel III, Rodney McElveen, Wilbur Van Scoik and Skip Watkins.
