Devils 3, Panthers 2: Stephane Richer scored with 5:27 left in the game as New Jersey rallied with three straight goals to beat host Florida. The Panthers shut down offensively after the first period. Florida took 13 shots in the first, but had just 14 in the final two periods as it lost for the seventh time in eight games. The victory was the second straight for New Jersey. Richer broke a 2-2 tie with a soft shot that got below goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck for his 23rd goal. Scott Niedermayer and Bob Carpenter assisted on the goal. New Jersey staged its comeback in the second period when it outshot Florida 18-6. Bill Guerin scored first for the Devils with his 16th goal 53 seconds into the second period. The Panthers fought off three power plays, but Bernie Nicholls' perseverence tied the score. Nicholls shot from point-blank range on Vanbiesbrouck, but was stopped three times before Nicholls forced the puck past him at 16:46 of the second period.
