Boone knocks off powerful Northwestern

Kevin Summer scored two free throws with just over four seconds left to give Orlando Boone a 52-48 victory Thursday over Miami Northwestern in a Class 5A high school basketball semifinal.

Northwestern (33-5, ranked No.

10 in the nation by USA Today), which led 24-21 at intermission, held a slim lead in the fourth quarter until 6:07 remained, when Boone (27-8) snatched a 37-36 lead on a John Burden basket.

Neither team led by more than three from then until Summer, who finished the game with six points, made the free throws.

Willie Anderson scored 18 and Burden added 14, including nine in the fourth quarter, to lead Boone. Summer scored four of his six points in the game's final 33 seconds.

Boone advances to play Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson (29-5), a 66-61 winner over Daytona Beach Mainland.

In Class 3A, Helgi Gudfinnsson scored 15 of his team's last 17 points to help Naples Lely take a 77-69 semifinal victory over Gainesville Eastside.

Gudfinnsson finished with 26 points for Lely (28-4), which moves into the championship game Saturday against Jacksonville Ribault (29-2), an 88-75 winner over Lake Wales.

For Ribault, Ben Flemming and Gary Anderson scored 24 points each.

Lake Wales led 36-26 at the half, but Ribault used 8-0 and 9-2 third-quarter runs to take a 60-56 lead going into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans stretched the lead to as many as 16.

Lake Wales ended its year 25-8 with the loss.

In Class A, Brian Lamb, who will attend the University of South Florida, scored a tournament-high 41 points and Florida A&M University High School stopped a Hollywood Christian rally and eliminated the defending champions 66-63.

The Baby Rattlers (22-11) will play Eatonville Wymore (29-5), an 85-82 winner over Apalachicola.

For Wymore, Terrence Harmon scored 39 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter.
