Janet still sidelined

Janet Jackson has postponed her three upcoming Los Angeles concerts because of respiratory problems, her publicist said Thursday. The singer, who was due to play at the Forum March 4, 5 and 7, recently canceled her Salt Lake City and Denver performances for the same reason.

Actor Mickey Rourke, arrested during a January altercation outside his nightclub, avoided conviction Thursday by agreeing to sponsor a boxing clinic for underprivileged children. Rourke, 39, a part-time pugilist himself, did not appear in court as part of the agreement.

St. Petersburg rapper Envy, (Hilary Powell) recently signed a record deal with Fader/Mercury records, with aims on releasing a 12-inch single this spring. She has also signed a production deal with Holly Rob and Dr. Ray, Inc, run by the two Pinellas Park natives (Rob and Ray Jones) who are currently with Uptown Records. Envy will be performing at Uptown 21 on Wednesday with Luke and the 2 Live Crew, and will open for 12 Gauge at the WRXB Spring Madness Jam at the Manatee Civic Center in Bradenton on March 11.


The Tampa Bay chapter of the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association sponsors a half-day seminar on a variety of production-related topics on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Tampa Convention Center. Participants may enroll in one or two 90-minute sessions, with a $12.50 fee per session. Session I (9-10:30 a.m.) topics include beginning steps in film production, tips for child actors and writing for screen or TV. Call 286-8659.
