Spilled gas starts station fire

Fuel from a damaged gas pump caused a fire Wednesday night at a BP service station in front of the Kash n' Karry food store at 2300 Main St. in Dunedin. Deputy Fire Chief Pat Kroeger said the fire started after a customer failed to remove the hose from a car after filling the tank. The car pulled away dragging the hose, Kroeger said, causing gas to spill on the pavement. The spilled gas ignited. Firefighters put out the fire, and no one was injured. Kroeger estimated damage to the pump at $500.
