Interior design seminar Friday in Clearwater

Raymond Waites, designer and co-founder of Gear Holdings, will hold a one-hour design seminar Friday at 11 a.m. at the Robb & Stucky showroom at 28200 U.S. 19 N in Clearwater. He'll present a slide show on the history of interior design and how design is affected by cultures and customs. He'll also answer questions and sign copies of his book, Festive Tables. Waites designed the Gear Collection, a series of furnishings marketed by the Lane Co., and is widely credited with revitalizing American design in home furnishings, wallcoverings, rugs, lamps and accessories. Voice command home automation system offered

As a standard feature, Lennar Homes is now offering a voice-activated home automation system. The system can be programed to control lights, heating, a security system, intercom and sprinkler system. It can be operated by voice command, by pressing a button, or over the phone lines when owners aren't at home. The system allows homeowners to touch a button on a TV remote to activate a camera at the front door and see and talk to someone who comes to the door. Lennar says the system adds about $2,000 to the home price, while replacing its standard security system, sprinkler timer, telephone prewiring, garage door remotes and intercom system.
