Investigators late Friday would not say whether a body found in a trash bin was that of a girl who disappeared earlier from her bedroom four blocks away.
The 11-year-old was last seen sleeping in her bed when her 14-year-old sister got up at 3 a.m. to turn on the heat. When their mother, who works an overnight shift, got home at 6 a.m., the 11-year-old sister was gone, said Polk County sheriff's spokeswoman Sue Bartell.
Throughout the day, deputies on horseback and in helicopters searched the area for the girl with short brown hair and blue eyes who was believed to have been wearing a black nightshirt.
At 4:35 p.m., a deputy found a body in a trash bin behind a Moose Lodge on Lake Parker, Bartell said.
Late Friday night, the body was still in the trash bin as deputies continued their investigation. Bartell said investigators would not give any details about the body.
