Church launches special ministries

PALM HARBOR _ Two special programs are under way at Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, 1113 Michigan Ave.

The church's Evangelistical Guest Registration ministry has volunteers who bake and package fresh bread loaves and then deliver a loaf to the homes of first-time visitors at Sunday morning services. The program began in 1992, and more than 300 loaves of bread have been delivered.

Later on Sunday, each visitor gets a telephone call to see if the bread arrived, and on Thursday, they are called again with an invitation to attend services the following Sunday. In addition, senior pastor Steve King sends a personal greeting to each visitor.

Another ministry, called Wild About Wednesdays, is a mid-week gathering that includes fellowship, dinner and study. Reservations are required for the catered dinner from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Prices are $3.95 to $5.95 for adults and $2.50 to $2.95 for children. Study time is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Programs are offered for adults and children in kindergarten through mid high school. Child care is provided for preschool children. Reservations are needed by noon Tuesday. Call 785-7487.
