Pedestrian hit by car, killed; driver charged

An unidentified man in his mid-20s was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run automobile accident near U.S. 19 and Klos Lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The driver, 31-year-old Ronald Vincent Jacobson of Port Richey, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and driving while his license was suspended.

According to the report, Jacobson was driving south on U.S. 19 about 11:25 p.m. when the unidentified man ran out into the road. The man was killed instantly when Jacobson's 1972 Chevrolet struck him from behind, the report states.

Jacobson reportedly fled the scene but troopers found and arrested him about four hours later.

He was being held Saturday at the Central Pasco Detention Center in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $6,500 bail.

The accident marked the 13th auto-related fatality in Pasco County this year, according to the FHP.
