High school senior all-stars from Hillsborough swept their Pinellas counterparts in Sunday's Class of '94 Soccer Challenge at Pepin-Rood Stadium.
In the first match, the Hillsborough girls were slight underdogs to Pinellas but used speed and aggressive defense to win 3-0.
The teams were scoreless in the first half. Pinellas' Vicki Loose of Seminole got off the first shot with 15 mintes left in the half.
Hillsborough struck quickly in the second, however, as Leto's Heidi Dietiker beat Pinellas goalie Sarah Cuni of Clearwater Central Catholic just 21 seconds in.
Berkeley Prep's Amanda Gauthier added two unassisted goals.
In the boys' matchup, the Chamberlain High connection worked well as Hillsborough defeated Pinellas 4-1.
Thirteen minutes into the first half, Leto's Charlie Rodrigues took a pass from Chamberlain's Scott Pearson and headed it for a score.
Ten minutes later, Bill Varnadoe (Bloomingdale) took the ball down the right wing and beat goalie Keith Noel (Dunedin).
Chamberlain's Joe Nicoletto and Todd Moniz scored second-half goals for Hillsborough.
Gauthier and Countryside's Teri Marino were named MVP for the girls' game, while Pearson and Case were boys' MVPs.
