Oldsmar council member barely holds post

It came down to only seven votes, but veteran Tom Pinta beat out newcomer Richard Schauseil for City Council Seat 3 on Tuesday.

Pinta captured 293 votes. Schauseil got 286.

Pinta said he was happy with his victory but disappointed at apparent voter apathy. Only 14 percent of Oldsmar's 4,164 registered voters came to the polls, compared with last year's 27 percent turnout.

"I always feel good winning," Pinta said. "I think the people of Oldsmar have spoken. I'm just sorry the count wasn't higher."

Schauseil said the low turnout may have been a factor in his loss. "Seven votes. That's real close. I don't know what would have tipped the scales."

Pinta, a retired general manager of Busch Gardens, was mayor of Oldsmar from 1987 to 1991.
