City commissioners approved a 4 percent raise for City Manager Pamela Brangaccio on Monday night.

Brangaccio received written evaluations from commissioners and met with them individually last week to discuss the evaluations.

The response was mixed. Commissioner Dan Pohto praised Brangaccio's initiative and desire to do a good job. Mayor Kent Runnells said Brangaccio is skilled at making issues easily understandable for commissioners. Commissioner Kathleen Bambery also gave the city manager high marks for completing goals set by the commission.

But Commissioner Linda Adkins and Vice Mayor Pamela Corbino criticized Brangaccio. Adkins called her management style "clandestine," and Corbino said Brangaccio has been rude to her at times and that she was rude to residents. Each commissioner said Brangaccio could improve her interpersonal skills.

There was no discussion of Brangaccio's evaluation at the meeting. Instead, commissioners took an average of the numerical scores she received, arriving at 4 percent. Last year, Brangaccio got a 5 percent raise. This year's increase comes out to $2,604, bringing her salary to $67,704. The increase takes effect in April.

Brangaccio has been city manager since 1991, taking over for John Downes, who resigned before the commission could fire him.
