Gregory Brust, Susan Castorina, Michael Ouderkirk, April Sikes, Carisa Swarts and Jason Warren, seniors at Lecanto High School, have been named commended students in the 1995 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corp. will be presented to the six, who are among 35,000 students nationwide being honored for their academic promise. These students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1-million students who entered the 1995 Merit Program by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test.

The following Floral City Elementary School pupils have been named September Citizens of the Month: prekindergarteners Albert Vanbennekom and Felicia Stabler; kindergarteners Christine Rouse, Samuel Rains, Sammy Justin, Kenny Carley, Jeffrey Nolen, Melissa Tompkins, Joshua Groom and Shanice Harris; first-graders Robert Vega, Melissa Wainwright, Amanda Saad, Justin Bass, Tiffany McBride and Jackie Johnson; second-graders Jodi Moores, Nicholas Lefkow, Hugo Fiore, Cori Montag, Timmy Wilson and John Hughes; third-graders Shaina Isenhour, Mike Lebeau, Trisha Adair, Lee Carey, Jesse Sandvick, Kansas Alexander and Kayla Iglesias; fourth-graders Angela Wade, Carl Clark, Steven Johns, Tina Burnett, Ross Keesling and Jennifer Borst; and fifth-graders Adrian Helton, Crystal Heath, Nate Hine, Cinthya Chin, Jaime Warner and Milton Lyons.
