Pregnant woman injured in collision

A pregnant woman was trapped in her car Wednesday after it was struck by a pickup truck at a busy St. Petersburg intersection.

Carrie Neal, 36, was driving her 1980 Audi west on 18th Avenue N when a 1986 Chevrolet pickup going north on 66th Street ran a red light, police say. The pickup hit the driver's side of the car, pinning Neal until rescue squads could cut off the door.

Neal was flown to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was in serious condition late Wednesday.

Her 2-year-old son, Alonzo, sat in his car seat in an ambulance as crews worked to free his mother. Police said the seat apparently spared the boy any injuries.

Martin Hill, 37, a Tampa man driving the truck, was not seriously injured. Neither was his passenger, Noel Green of 1972 Partoson St. in Tampa. Police Officer Pete Foreman cited Hill for running the red light.
