Violent come-on; violent rejection

Tampa police say that 42-year-old Larry Joshua Jakes wanted to go out with a bartender at the Chip-In Bar on E Columbus Drive and that he wouldn't take no for an answer.

Tuesday night, Jakes walked up to 35-year-old Ella D. Hunter and asked her out. When she refused, police say he pulled her over the bar and hit her over the head with a full bottle of whiskey.

Hunter, who was not injured, struck back.

Police say she grabbed a knife and stabbed Jakes once in the chest. Jakes was listed in stable but guarded condition at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Police say that the investigation is continuing and that no charges have been filed in the case. The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. at the Chip-in Bar just north of Ybor City.
