The state Division of Elections has dismissed a complaint against Republican Sandra Mortham, who is running for secretary of state.
Mortham's opponent, Democrat Ron Saunders, had accused her of illegally accepting $50,000 from the state Republican Party before the October runoff. Saunders said Mortham should have known she was violating elections law when she took $25,000 over the limit she could accept at the time.
The Elections Division said Mortham did not willfully violate the law and returned $25,000 to the party when she learned of the mistake.
Mortham, a former state representative from Largo, accused Saunders, a former representative from Key West, of making a politically motivated attack.
