Apollo Stevedoring Co. Inc. and Jason Shipping Co. are expanding services to include the Port of Jacksonville. With the addition of Jacksonville, the shipping companies now offer a full range of stevedoring and agency services, including break-bulk general cargo, containers, new-bulk and bulk at the ports of Canaveral, Jacksonville, Manatee, St. Petersburg and Tampa.

Suarez Housing has instituted a "tree program" by planting a tree in the street easement in front of every home in the Riverview community of the Oaks of Riverglen. This surpasses minimum building code requirements.

Each year the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce presents an award to an individual who distinguishes himself or herself with outstanding dedication in the area of community service. Brandon's Key Citizen is chosen on the basis of contributions to the progress of the Brandon area from the standpoint of unselfish devotion to the betterment of the community. This involvement must be continuous for a period of not less than five years and should be through many activities with emphasis on the past year. The award will be presented Nov. 12 at the Balloon Ball at Brandon Indoor Soccer on Lumsden Road. Deadline for nominations is today. Call the chamber at 689-1221.

Tampa lawyer William D. Mitchell of Mitchell and Associates is the author of a newly published book, The Estate and Retirement Planning Answer Book, published by Panel Publications. The book is the latest published by Panel as part of the Answer Book Series. The book is designed to provide professional advisers and business executives with quick and authoritative answers to retirement and estate-planning problems. Mitchell is also co-author of another book, Employee Fringe and Welfare Benefit Plans.

Carlson Travel Network/Palm Travel Service is now operating as Carlson Wagonlit Travel. The agency joins the worldwide organization that is backed by a network of $10.8-billion in annual sales with more than 4,000 locations in 125 countries.

The sixth annual Hospice of Hillsborough Educational Symposium is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Tampa Westshore Marriott Hotel. The symposium, titled "The Helpers Journey: Perspectives on Palliative Care," is designed to offer a variety of health care strategies in the care of people with life-limiting illnesses. Dr. Dale Larsen is the keynote speaker. He is known for his inspirational work in the interpersonal dynamics of professional caregiving and in the coping mechanisms for caregiver stress. Other topics include palliative care issues relating to children, creative treatment techniques, current treatment issues in the HIV/AIDS population, spiritual care for the patient and family and the impact of African American culture on the caregiving relationship. Appleyard and Co. has relocated to the former Merchant Bank Building on Oakfield Drive in Brandon. The move has allowed additional staffing for a planned expansion of property management and receivership services. The company provides commercial real estate marketing and management services in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Polk and Highlands counties.
