Actor Raul Julia, star of Kiss of the Spider Woman and the Addams Family movies, was in a coma and on life support after having a stroke over the weekend, his agent said Thursday. "He is not conscious, we can only wait," Julia's agent Jeff Hunter told Reuters. "There is no more we can do than that." Hunter said Julia, a stage and screen actor known for his brooding looks and resonant voice, went into the coma four days after having the stroke. He is in an unidentified New York hospital.
Denver wants DUI test out
John Denver wants to a judge to throw out a blood-alcohol test taken after the singer crashed his Porsche into a tree. Denver was incapable of consenting to the test, his lawyer Walter Gerash said Tuesday. The singer had a concussion and had 14 stitches on his forehead in the August accident. "Even if he had been drinking, if he couldn't give them voluntary permission to take his blood, then the test is inadmissible," Gerash said. The state can revoke the license of anyone who refuses to take the test. A judge sealed the test results pending a Dec. 22 hearing. Gerash said Denver would plead innocent to the drunken driving charge, which carries up to a year in jail and a $1,500 fine. At the time of the accident, Denver was on probation after pleading guilty to driving under the influence during a 1993 crash.
