Add cheer to the holidays

It's a wonderful feeling to live in a home that is decorated for the holidays, and this big, full-color outdoor display is a fun and easy way to spread some cheer around the neighborhood.

The Santa display includes Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, the sleigh, eight reindeer and the family cat. It can be set up in the yard or on the roof or used to add merriment to city parks, businesses, churches and schools. The display is life-size, with Santa and Mrs. Claus both standing almost 6 feet tall.

The only materials needed are the posters, a few sheets of exterior plywood, waterproof glue, paint and sealer. The whole family can help put the figures together.

To build the display, just glue the posters onto plywood, smooth out the bubbles, saw around the outer edges and paint the sides and backs black. Let them dry, then make stakes or stands from the remaining plywood and set the display up where desired.

Like billboards, the figures are printed on weather-resistant poster paper with waterproof, "sunfast" inks. They are designed to last several years untreated, but a coat of polyurethane sealer can be applied for greater protection.

The Santa Display, No. C20, is $48. Also available (for $3.95) is a catalog picturing hundreds of other do-it-yourself projects, including holiday posters depicting a Nativity scene, Santa's Workshop and more. Prices include sales tax, postage and handling.
