No place like Lecanto High at homecoming

This week will be a time for pajama-clad students, wacky competitions, a football game, crowning of a queen, and dancing in Emerald City as Lecanto High celebrates Homecoming '94.

The fun begins with students dressing to a different theme each school day this week. Today is Come As You Are/Pajama Day, Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is Nerd Day, Thursday is Color of the Rainbow/Funky Hair Day, and Friday there is a choice: Green and Gold/Spirit Day or Character Day, in which a student dresses like a Wizard of Oz character.

The Lecanto High Panthers also will work on floats and decorate the school's halls in a "Wizard of Paws" theme.

Silly Olympics will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the football field. The event features games like a water balloon toss, tricycle race and a barnyard animal calling contest. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a bonfire.

Lecanto's homecoming parade starts at 2 p.m. Friday. Students will march down W Educational Path. The parade will befollowed by a pep rally.

At 7:30 p.m., Lecanto will play Clearwater Central Catholic, and the homecoming queen will be announced during halftime ceremonies. The candidates for queen are Jennifer Boldt, Deanna Dreyer, Sandra Griffith, Kelly Zimbro, and Traci Riggs.

There will be a homecoming dance after the game in the gym, which will be decorated like Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz. The dance will feature the crowning of the homecoming king. Dress is semiformal.
