A 48-year-old Largo woman and her 14-year-old daughter were killed last weekend in a two-car collision near Fayetteville, N.C.
Geraldine Morgan, her daughter, Cindy, and, husband, John, were returning home on Interstate 95 from a vacation when a 1986 Cadillac collided with their Ford Aerostar van.
The Cadillac was headed north when it crossed a median and collided with the family's southbound van about around 9:45 a.m.
The driver of the other car, Lina Lara, 65, of Wilmington, Del., died at the scene.
Mrs. Morgan and Cindy were taken to nearby Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. On Sunday, only hours apart, mother and daughter were pronounced dead, said nursing supervisor Betty Deaton.
John Morgan, 50, who was driving, was taken to Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital. He was listed in critical but stable condition late Monday night.
A memorial service will be held today at Largo High School, where Cindy was one of 130 students in the a new magnet program.
"The students in that program work together pretty closely. Cindy's death has hit them very hard," principal Barbara Thornton said.
