Raymond M. Hook, longtime Pinellas County funeral director, died Monday (Oct. 24, 1994) at home. He was 70.
He died after a long illness, his family said.
For 28 years he operated the family-owned Raymond M. Hook Funeral Home in Seminole. A son, Mike, joined the business in 1983.
Raymond Martin Hook was born and reared in Fryburg, Pa.
During World War II, he was wounded while serving with the Army in the South Pacific as an artillery gun crew member.
After returning from the service, he studied at the Institute of Mortuary Science in Pittsburgh and worked for a year at Faller Funeral Home in Fryburg. He moved to Florida in 1953.
Before opening his funeral home in 1966, he worked for several mortuaries, including Osgood Funeral Home.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Seminole, and its Holy Name Society. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Post 9272, Seminole, and DAV Cpl. Louis C. Goi, USMC, Chapter 93, Seminole.
He also was a member of the American Legion Post 273, Madeira Beach, a charter member of Elks Club 2519, Seminole, and a 3rd- and 4th-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth E.; two sons, Charles D. and Michael R., Seminole; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Rickerman, St. Petersburg; two sisters, Edith Thomas, Largo, and Marcella Adams, Erie, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond M. Hook and Son Funeral Home, 11110 70th Ave. N, Seminole. A VFW service will be at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11565 66th Ave. N, Seminole. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater.
