A worker was critically injured Tuesday when a huge concrete slab fell at a construction site at the Port of Miami, police said.
The worker was hit by concrete and debris. The accident came as the slab was being lifted by a crane as workers build a multistory parking garage, said Metro-Dade police Detective Marie Duboulay.
"The victim was working in the building when a cable holding a piece of concrete came loose and fell to the ground, with the slab of concrete," she said. "It hit the building, and part of that came down, too."
The worker's name was not immediately released pending notification of his family.
Duboulay said the man was in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the accident was under investigation, she said.
