Florida Bar seeks nominees for award
The Florida Bar is looking for a few good men and women as candidates for the Clayton B. Burton Award of Excellence. The award is named for the late Clayton B. Burton, a Clearwater lawyer and founder of the Military Law-Aid to Servicemen Committee (now Military Affairs Committee) of the Florida Bar. It is given annually to an attorney who demonstrates character and leadership promoting the quality of legal services furnished to military personnel serving in Florida. Nominations must be submitted by Nov. 24 to Maritza Sanchez, the Florida Bar, 650 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL, 32399-2300.

with Haiti operation
Navy Seaman Christopher Burney, son of Ernestine Burney of St. Petersburg, and Marine Staff Sgt. George Silva, son-in-law of Doyt and Peggy Brown, also of St. Petersburg, are two of the 10,000 Navy and about 2,000 Marine Corps members patrolling the water off the coast of Haiti. Burney is a mess management specialist, or cook, and Silva is an ordinance chief aboard the USS Wasp, based in Norfolk, Va. Burney is a 1993 graduate of Gibbs High School.

Marine Pfc. Scott L. Curran, son of Carl F. and Linda C. Curran of St. Petersburg, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 1991 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.
Navy SR Benjamin D. Burton, son of Cheryl Boyd Watson of St. Petersburg, at Great Lakes Naval Training Base, Great Lakes, Ill. He has been sent to Fort Hueneme, Calif., for "A" School. Burton is a 1994 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.
Navy Hull Tech Fireman Recruit Daniel D. Currier Jr., son of Elizabeth Peck of Pinellas Park and Daniel and Janet Currier, San Antonio, at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Ill., and "A" School in Philadelphia. He has reported for duty aboard the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt, based in Norfolk, Va. Currier is a 1993 graduate of Pasco Comprehensive High School.
Air Force Airman Rebecca H. Hayslip, daughter of Cheryl A. Lunsford of St. Petersburg and James E. Taylor of Westerville, Ohio, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. She is a 1992 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.
Army Reserve Pvt. Susan R. Pensinger, daughter of Gerald K. Pensinger of Clearwater and Jo E. Truchan of St. Petersburg, at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is a 1993 graduate of Clearwater High School.
Navy SR Owen E. "Todd" Richason IV, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen E. Richason III, at Great Lakes Navy Base, Great Lakes, Ill. He has been assigned to "A" School at Memphis Navy Base, Millington, Tenn.
