Two sisters, 11 and 13, said a man in an old brown van tried to grab them Monday evening while they were riding bikes southwest of Brooksville. The girls told deputies they were headed east on Tascosa Avenue near California Street about 6 p.m. when they were approached by a white man, about 35 or 40 years old, with bad teeth, a short beard and dark brown, shoulder-length hair. He tried to grab one, then talked with her sister briefly before the two girls rode away. Sheriff's deputies issued a lookout bulletin for the man and his van, but there had been no arrest as of Wednesday evening.

Woman charged in hit and run
SHADY HILLS _ A 39-year-old Brooksville woman was arrested Tuesday night on charges that she fled after hitting a girl walking along U.S. 41 a half-mile south of the Pasco-Hernando county line. Valerie A. Lambert of Jackson Avenue was charged with causing serious bodily injury while driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper found the rear-view mirror from Lambert's dark blue Camaro at the accident scene and tracked down her address using the car's tag number, which was provided by witnesses. Lambert told the trooper that as she drove north on U.S. 41, a girl jumped out in front of her as if the girl "wanted to commit suicide," according to the trooper's report. Lambert also said she drank four or five beers before the accident and a beer after the accident, the trooper wrote. The name and condition of the injured girl were unavailable Wednesday. Lambert was released Wednesday from the county jail in Land O'Lakes on her own recognizance.
