A 39-year-old Brooksville woman was arrested Tuesday night on charges that she fled after hitting a girl walking along U.S. 41 a half-mile south of the Pasco-Hernando county line.

Valerie A. Lambert of Jackson Avenue was charged with causing serious bodily injury while driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper found the rear-view mirror from Lambert's dark blue Camaro at the accident scene and tracked down her address using the car's tag number, which was provided by witnesses.

Lambert told the trooper that as she drove north on U.S. 41, a girl jumped out in front of her as if the girl "wanted to commit suicide," according to the trooper's report. Lambert also said she drank four or five beers before the accident and a beer after the accident, the trooper wrote.

The name and condition of the injured girl were unavailable Wednesday.

Lambert was released Wednesday from the county jail in Land O'Lakes on her own recognizance.
