HORSE RACING

Six of the seven races at the 11th Breeders' Cup Day on Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs will have a full 14-horse field. A record number of 126 horses, 33 of them based in Europe, were pre-entered for the seven races, with 25 named for the Sprint. If one of the top 14 is not officially entered Nov. 2 or is scratched, his or her place will be taken from the other 11 pre-entered in the order of their preference by a selection panel. The Distaff is the only race without a full field. In the Mile, Lure's brilliant career will come to a close with an attempt to win the race for the third straight time and become the first horse to win three Breeders' Cup races.

SOCCER: Soccer officials trying to determine where the eight additional berths to the 1998 World Cup will go went into overtime before coming up with two proposals, which will be presented to FIFA's Executive Committee today. One proposal would include playoffs.
