Judge sends pet gator home

Published Oct. 8, 2005

A 7{-foot, 107-pound alligator will crawl into a Coconut Grove home today _ to stay.

The gator, named Gwendolyn, will sunbathe in a private pool surrounded by an 8-foot fence topped with barbed wire, "to keep human animals out."

All this, thanks to a Dade County judge who ruled in the alligator's favor.

Gwendolyn was caught by trappers after escaping from Rene Van Buren's home. Van Buren has waged a well-publicized court battle to win his pet back.
