Vocalist does well in competition

Stephanie Dianne Barnett of Brooksville recently was chosen to be a "Jeanie Maid" for the second consecutive year. The selection was made during the 44th annual "Jeanie with the light brown hair" vocal auditions and ball sponsored by the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and the Florida Park Service. The event was held Oct. 7-8 at the Stephen Foster Center in White Springs. Barnett received a $750 music scholarship. She was sponsored by the Brooksville Music Club and is a vocal major at Florida State University. Barnett performed three selections: Some Folks by Stephen Foster, Loveliest of Trees by John Duke and A Spirit Flower by Louis Campbell-Tipton.

Richard A. Howard recently was honored for his outstanding service to the Guardian Ad Litem Program. A member of the Hernando County Bar Association, Howard was recognized by the State Supreme Court and Governor Lawton Chiles for his dedication to the program and was commended for outstanding service to the courts of the Fifth Judicial Circuit.

Lucille Muhsgnug is the Spring Hill Art League Artist of the Month for November. A New Jersey native, Muhsgnug began painting when she moved to Florida 16 years ago. She enjoys painting wildlife and specializes in pet portraits in oils. Muhsgnug's work will be on exhibit next month at the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative on State Road 50.

Curtis Maynard of Spring Hill will be one of four state volunteer trainers with the American Association of Retired Persons. AARP has instituted a state training plan, and he will help implement the programs. Maynard served as director of the Family Life Seminars with Ford Motor Co., before he retired. He has extensive experience in training work and public relations.
