Knights of Columbus officers to be installed

New officers of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Father Edward J. Farrell Assembly, will be installed during ceremonies Saturday night at the council hall, 2040 Grand Blvd., Holiday.

Installation ceremonies start at 5:30 with dinner at 6:30 and dancing to the music of Jo Jo and Her Bodyguards at 7:30 p.m.

Dress in tuxedos, jackets and ties. The public is welcome.

R. Rudolph Toncich, a Knight for 43 years, will be installed as navigator. Formerly of Floral Park, N.Y., he retired 25 years ago. He and his wife Gertrude live in Forest Hills East and are parishioners of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Other officers are Robert J. Tatro, comptroller; the Rev. Robert J. Poirier, friar; Richard M.Hearns, captain; Philip M. Cara, admiral; Seldon F. Siegfried, purser; Joseph J. Jackus, pilot; Charles R. Schroeder; scribe; Stephen Drost, inner sentinel; Henry A. Karpiknski, outer sentinel; and Leonard A.Raubunas, Walter J. Plagens Jr. and James F. Powers, trustees.

Open mike coffeehouse participants are sought

Poets, storytellers, singers, musicians and comedians are invited to participate in an Open Mike Coffeehouse sponsored by the Writers and Poets of Pasco Hernando and Pasco English Teachers on Saturday night. The event will take place on the grounds of the Pasco Fine Arts Center, 5744 Moog Road, Holiday.

The program, funded by the Florida Humanities Council, is free.

Those attending should bring lawn chairs for their own convenience.

Dr. Peter Meinke will talk on "The Contemporary American Poet" at 7 p.m. For more than 20 years Meinke has directed the Writing Workshop at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. His poems are widely published . His "Liquid Paper: New and Selected Poems" was nominated for a Pulitzer.
