NEW THIS WEEK

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (R) (102 min.) B _ Two snaps and a circle for this flamboyant tale of two drag queens and an aging transsexual (Terence Stamp in a deliciously regal performance) travel into the Australian outback. The meager storyline is secondary to the musical numbers, a collection of pop nuggets from ABBA to Gloria Gaynor, lipsynched with loving panache by the stars in their fabulous costumes. _ Movies at Pinellas Park, Tampa Theater.

Glen or Glenda? (NR) (70 min.) C _ Ed Wood's semi-autobiographical movie about a transvestite who can't break the news of his fashion tastes to his girlfriend. The real Wood _ canonized by Tim Burton in a recent movie _ stars as the confused hero/heroine, under the pseudonym Daniel Davis. _ Tampa Theater.

Plan 9 from Outer Space (NR) (80 min.) C _ Ed Wood's mortifying masterpiece of grave-robbing aliens; a no-budget sci-fi schlock classic that just gets better (by getting worse) with each viewing. _ Tampa Theater.

The Road to Wellville (R) (122 min.) B- _ Anthony Hopkins takes a rare comic turn as Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, inventor of the corn flake and a host of bizarre biological therapies at the turn of the 20th century. Matthew Broderick and Bridget Fonda are two of his befuddled and battered patients in director Alan Rudolph's maniacally self-imploding adaptation of T.C. Boyle's irreverent novel. _ Main Street 5, Largo Mall 8, Tri-City 8, Movies at Pinellas Park, Seminole 8, Crossroads 8, Plitt 4, Britton 8, Horizon Park 4, Northdale Court, Old Hyde Park 7, Varsity 6, Oakmont 8 Theaters, Gulfside Cinema, Cinema West.

Silent Fall (R) (110 min.) D _ An autistic young boy witnesses a murder, and a disillusioned child psychologist (Richard Dreyfuss) is the only hope to spring that testimony from his memory. Linda Hamilton and John Lithgow co-star as his wife and rival, respectively. Dumb and dull, but for smart aleck viewers, one of the most enjoyably bad movies in months. _ Main Street 5, Movies at Pinellas Park, Crossroads 8, Regency Square 8, Lake Walden Cinema 8, Britton 8, Hillsboro 8, Northdale Court, Old Hyde Park 7, University Collection 6, Movies at Desoto Square, Gulfside Cinema, Cinema Square Theater, Boulevard 6.

Stargate (PG-13) (119 min.) _ Kurt Russell and James Spader are teamed to prevent an invasion of Earth by invaders across time and space. Jaye Davidson (The Crying Game) co-stars as an extraterrestrial king. _ Clearwater 5, Countryside 6, Largo Mall 8, Tri-City 8, Pinellas Square 3, Seminole 8, Tyrone 6, Regency Square 8, Lake Walden Cinema 8, Britton 8, Hillsboro 8, Main Street 6, Old Hyde Park 7, University Collection 6, Movies at Desoto Square, Embassy, Cinema 6, Cinema Square Theater, Citrus Cinemas, Spring Theater.
