Citrus High volleyball coach Pat King thought for a minute, then decided winning a second consecutive district title was more gratifying than finally beating rival Lecanto.
Both happened Friday night when Citrus topped Lecanto 15-4, 16-14 for the Class 4A, District 6 title.
"Winning the district title is more satisfying," King said. "It wouldn't matter who we played as long as we won the district."
The Hurricanes (18-3) will play host to District 5 winner Bradford in the Region III match Tuesday.
Lecanto (14-9) was a consistent thorn in Citrus' side this season. The Hurricanes lost only three times during the regular season, twice to the Panthers.
But on Friday, with a district title on the line, Lecanto hitters commited 15 errors while 6-foot-4 Citrus senior Kristy White prowled the net.
White, who had 16 kills and four solo blocks in the match, staved off a possible third game when, with Citrus trailing 14-13 in the second, she rotated to the front row and made three kills in the final five points.
Lecanto coach Karen Boisvert was disappointed with her team's lack of execution.
"We lost because we messed up on our hitting," Boisvert said. "The game plan was there. All we had to do was reduce the number of errors we made by half and we could have won."
Junior Gwen Francis led the Panthers with seven kills and one block.
