Fifty-five amateur teams from throughout the nation will be vying for four division titles Monday through Saturday in the fourth annual Men's Senior Baseball "Fall Classic" Tournament.
The round-robin event has three age brackets (18-29, 30-39, 40-and-older) and will be played at four complexes in three Pinellas County cities. Admission is free at all four sites: Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Jack Russell Stadium and Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, as well as Englebert Complex in Dunedin.
Both St. Petersburg and Clearwater will be represented. Other Florida teams are Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Teams from outside the state are Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Louisville, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., Pittsburgh, Long Island, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Detroit and Puerto Rico.
Several local teams have been competitive in the past.
In the 18-29 division, the St. Petersburg Hurricanes won division titles in both 1991 and 1992, while the St. Petersburg All-Stars won the title last year.
In the 30-39 group, the Clearwater Tigers were champs in 1991. In the 40-and-older class, the St. Petersburg 39ers won in 1992.
The 40-and-older championship game will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday at Al Lang and the 30-39 National division title game will follow at 2:30 p.m. The 18-29 title game will be played at 10 a.m. at Jack Russell Stadium and the 30-39 American title game will follow at 2:30 p.m.
