A man was arrested Friday and accused of posing as an insurance agent last month and persuading an elderly woman to write him a $1,000 check, Pinellas County sheriff's deputies say. Kevin W. Schauer of 1519 Saplin Drive in Holiday was charged with home invasion and grand theft. Schauer, 34, told the woman Sept. 30 that he was a salesman for Ameri-Life & Health Services, arrest reports say. The woman, who lives near Clearwater, wrote him the check but left blank the payee line, reports say. Schauer filled in his name and cashed the check, reports say. Schauer apparently has not worked for Ameri-Life since 1991, and the state shows no record of him being a licensed insurance agent, arrest reports say. Schauer, who was on probation for a similar offense from 1991, was held on $12,500 bail Saturday at the Pinellas County Jail.
