The 1994 Flapjack Festival doesn't begin in earnest until Nov. 11. But why wait until then? Several festival-related events will be held next weekend. Three events are scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. with the Flapjack 5K Run and Fun Walk at the Land O'Lakes Community Center, U.S. 41 and School Road.
Entry fee for the 5-kilometer run is $10 advance; $12 on race day. Entry fee for the one-mile walk is $8 advance; $10 on race day.
In the 5K, awards will be given for best male and female runners overall, best male and female masters runners and in five individual age groups. For registration information, call Dave Estabrook at 996-6080.
The Lake Padgett Ski Club will hold an exhibition on the lake Saturday at 11 a.m. The show will include such special events as hang gliding and knee-boarding in addition to the regular skiing events. For more information, call Chuck Girk at 996-5245.
On Saturday night, Natalie Dawn Stout will turn over her title as a new Miss Land O'Lakes is crowned. The 1994-95 pageant is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex on Collier Parkway.
Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children; tickets also will be available at the door for $8 adults, $5 children.
This year's contestants are Aileen Arce, Melissa Beaver, Christina Cannon, Erika Cherry, Nikki Clower, Gillian East, Tammy Holland, Jennifer Long, Bambi Mecum, Brooke Power, Bridgett Riddling and Valarie Rodriguez.
The winner will receive a $700 scholarship from Pasco-Hernando Community College and a $200 educational supply scholarship from the Lutz-Land O'Lakes Women's Club.
On Sunday, a road rally will begin at the Land O'Lakes Community Center at U.S. 41 and School Road. The sign-in is at 2 p.m., and the rally runs from 3 to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $3 per person, with a maximum of five people per car.
