Man jailed after threats to witness

(ran SE edition of LT)

A St. Petersburg man was arrested after threatening to kill a woman who was going to testify against him, St. Petersburg police said. Sylvester Gamble, 54, of 1920 28th St. S, was charged with tampering with a state witness and burglary. Police said Gamble kicked in the door of the woman's home in St. Petersburg early Sunday morning and said he was going to kill her if she testified against him for breaking into her home a day earlier. Gamble was arrested Saturday on charges of breaking into the same woman's home. Gamble's threats were overheard by a St. Petersburg police officer, and he later admitted to the charge. Gamble was being held Sunday at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
