A mother who said she wanted to retaliate for abuse as a child has confessed to killing her 4-month-old son and to strangling a friend's infant while babysitting in November, police say.
Clover Demerr Boykin, 19, of Royal Palm Beach was charged Saturday with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse after she confessed during questioning, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.
"She's having some problems emotionally, and she's claiming to have been an abused child and that she was taking it out on someone else," Lt. Steve Newell said.
Boykin was being held in the county jail. An official there said Boykin would probably appear before a judge today.
Deputies had been investigating the death of her son, Dayton Allen Boykin, since his grandmother and aunt found him dead on a waterbed at his home about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Newell said the young mother confessed Saturday night to strangling him.
She then dropped another bombshell: Boykin said she did the same to 9-month-old Kayla Basante while babysitting the child in November, Newell said.
Kayla was found Nov. 16 with a blanket wrapped around her neck. She died Nov. 23, authorities said. Her parents, Rebecca and William Basante of Palm Springs, had thought their child died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, but the medical examiner's office could not determine the cause of death.
