University of Colorado at Boulder anthropologist Darna Durfour, a specialist in insect cuisine who has snacked on everything from mealworms to crickets, says ants are tastiest when toasted. In a recent magazine article, she recalled her first taste of toasted ants at a U.S. Embassy Party in Bogota, Colombia. "They tasted sort of meatish," said Durfour.
