Two Pasco County downtown areas were recognized by the state for making significant strides toward revitalizing their Main Street areas.
Dade City's Williams/Lunch on Limoges and Zephyrhills' Time Square Plaza recently received an award from the Florida Redevelopment Association/Florida Main Street.
Lunch on Limoges was honored for providing a catalyst for downtown Dade City's revitalization. The business has helped give people a reason to visit downtown, said Bob Trescott, Florida Main Street coordinator. The area has become a destination for antique shoppers who often take time out to eat lunch at the department store turned restaurant/boutique.
"Dade City is in the middle of nowhere and there was nothing," Trescott said. "Who would have thunk it?"
The city of Zephyrhills was honored for Time Square Plaza, a combination park and parking garage. That project was a public/private partnership between the city, Main Street Zephyrhills, Zephyrhills Bottled Water and the Smiths, a local pioneer family, as well as others.
The urban park and parking facility is a focal point of downtown Zephyrhills, Trescott said.
