Man, 21, sentenced in thefts

Douglas Wayne Chafin, 21, of Spring Hill was sentenced Friday to 26 months in prison and 34 months probation in connection with a series of thefts from automobiles. Chafin, arrested in February with two other Hernando County residents, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jack Springstead. Chafin pleaded guilty to violating probation and no contest to charges including burglary, grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

Two thefts investigated

BROOKSVILLE _ The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of about $2,300 in tools and riding lawn mowers from Hernando Christian Academy. Authorities said the items were taken from a storage area Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. Brooksville police are investigating a similar

theft at Hernando High School in which about $3,500 worth of equipment was taken. The Hernando High School theft occurred on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Man sentenced in drug case

BROOKSVILLE _ A Texas man was sentenced Friday on charges stemming from his involvement in a drug-trafficking ring that carried marijuana to Hernando County. John Charles Hoyo III was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jack Springstead to 5{ years in prison and 5 years probation. He pleaded guilty in April to racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering and importation and trafficking of cannabis. Hoyo was accused of being an integral part of a drug importation scam run by Raymond Boschen and his wife, Barbara, out of a home on Fayetteville Drive in Spring Hill. Prosecutors said Hoyo served as a scout in Texas and informed the Boschens when large amounts of marijuana were available to be transported to Florida.
