Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a bicyclist in a hit-and-run accident on U.S. 19 Thursday night. James Van Gelder, 41, of Homosassa Springs, was killed when he apparently was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle just south of Homosassa Springs. The accident, which happened at 10 p.m. Thursday, occurred about a mile south of Homosassa Springs, according to Florida Highway Patrol investigators. Van Gelder's body was discovered at about midnight by a passer-by. Apparently he had been struck from behind while traveling northbound on the road. Van Gelder was the 18th person killed this year on Citrus County roads. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at (800) 500-1240.
