Basic training

Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher J. Ricapito recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Angelo and Andrian Ricapito of Hudson, and a 1993 graduate of Hudson High School.


Maj. Gen. William Begert was recently promoted to his present rank and has assumed responsibilities as director of Operations and Logistics at U. S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He is the son of Bill and Martine Begert of Lewiston, Maine. His wife, Jody, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Feeley of Bayonet Point. Begert is a graduate of the Air Force Academy.


Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Donna J. Bakeler recently retired from active duty after 20 years of service. Bakeler most recently served at Service School Command in San Diego. Her husband, Michael, is the son of Alfred S. and Berta Bakeler of Port Richey. She joined the Navy in June 1975.

Marine Pfc. Perry D. Blanford recently completed the administrative clerk course. He is a 1994 graduate of Pasco Comprehensive High School of Dade City and joined the Marine Corps in November 1994.

Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Scott A. Sinclair recently graduated from the ground radio communications specialist course at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. Sinclair is an honor graduate of this course and the son of Elizabeth A. Boyt of Zephyrhills.

Navy Airman Recruit Jeffrey R. Hunt recently participated in a commemoration of the end of World War II as part of New York City's Fleet Week celebration aboard the aircraft carrier USS America. He is the son of Gilbert A. and Shirley D. Hunt of Hudson and a 1994 graduate of Hudson High School. Hunt joined the Navy in October.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Ian P. Shepherd recently graduated from the Navy's Basic Nuclear Power School. He is the son of Joan P. Shepherd of Hudson.

Marine Lance Cpl. Shelby D. Rainey recently provided support for the dawn rescue mission of the American fighter pilot who was shot down over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Rainey is the son of Terry E. and Cindy L. Rainey of Hudson and a 1993 graduate of Ridgewood High School. He joined the Marine Corps in September 1993.

Navy Fireman Richard Merckel recently participated in the Eighth Annual Fleet Week celebration in New York City aboard the dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall homeported in Norfolk, Va. He is the son of Rosalie and Richard Merckel Sr. of Port Richey and a 1993 graduate of Ridgewood High School. Merckel joined the Navy in January 1994.

Jessica L. Noggle of New Port Richey is one of approximately 350 applicants to receive an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn. Chosen from 4,872 applicants, Noggle is scheduled to arrive at the academy July 10.
