Task force to present findings

The Task Force for Promoting Readiness in Post-secondary Education and the Workplace will present its draft recommendations and answer questions from the audience at a public forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo. The task force, which includes educators, administrators, parents and representatives of the business community, began meeting in September to develop strategies to prepare students for careers and continuing education after high school. Its recommendations include requiring eighth-graders to select one of five post-graduation destinations ranging from immediate employment or military service to pursuing a degree. The task force also recommends phasing in the requirement of a minimum unweighted grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and one credit in fine arts in order to graduate from Pinellas County schools.
