Bring nourishment, company to others

(ran CI)

Is it hot enough for you yet? Thank goodness for air conditioning and being able to get out of the house once in a while.

How do you think it would be if you didn't have air conditioning and couldn't get out of the house? There are plenty of folks who fit into one or both of those categories. If you would like to help in some way, here is one option: Home Delivered Meals (HDM) needs substitute drivers to fill in for vacationing volunteers.

Substitute drivers deliver prepared meals to shut-ins. You will even get 25 cents a mile for driving your vehicle to deliver the meals. Extra drivers are needed for the routes in Floral City, Crystal River, Lecanto, Homosassa and two routes in Beverly Hills.

If delivering meals isn't your thing, we have plenty of other volunteer opportunities. The beauty of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is that you get to choose the type of volunteer work and get free benefits through the RSVP. There are roughly 100 different volunteer jobs in the county through RSVP.

If you want to join this group of lively, outgoing, friendly people who are 55 or older, come see us in the Lecanto Government Complex. Call weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 746-7777. Please call before coming to make sure that we are in to help you.

Don Adair is the director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Citrus County. You can write him c/o Seniority, the St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg, FL 33731.
