SCIENTIFIC NAME: Megalops atlanticus
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Shiny, large "stainless steel" scales; upturned mouth.
DESCRIPTION: Stout body with no markings. Long filament trails from rear base of dorsal fin.
RANGE: Occasional in Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean; also north to Virginia, Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico and south to Brazil.
HABITAT & BEHAVIOR: Drift in canyons and secluded areas. Normally school during the day. Actively feed at night.
