Entertainment, tour on tap for Market Day

Preparations are under way for the July 8 Market Day.

Market Day will take place on a wooded lot between Bank and Lincoln on Main Street, just over the bridge in downtown New Port Richey.

The band FreeRide will entertain from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Michael Jackson impersonator will perform at 10:30 a.m.

Something new is a tour of old downtown New Port Richey starting at 9 a.m., provided by the Yellow Cab Co. There will be a stop at the West Pasco Historical Society, where tour participants will be treated to free refreshments and information on local history.

During the day, the Hunter Blood Center will accept blood donations.

Jim Sim of New Port Richey was named grand prize winner for the 1995 Market Days Logo Design Contest. A representative will accept the $500 cash award for Sim, who is out of town, from New Port Richey Mayor Peter Altman on behalf of the Market Day committee.

Sim's design won out over almost 150 entries.

Logo contest runners-up include Joe Kearns of New Port Richey, second place; Nancy Lee Bell of New Port Richey, third; and Densie Loomis of Holiday, fourth. Each will receive Market Day dollars.

The Market Day committee needs volunteers to assist with peach peeling and for the contests. Those who can spare a few hours are asked to call (813) 843-8600.

Luncheon and party honor Sister Christina O'Connor

Sister Christina O'Connor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in New Port Richey was honored at a recent luncheon and tea party at Harborside Healthcare Gulf Coast in New Port Richey.

She was presented a plaque of recognition by Jim Ross, facility administrator.

Sister Christina O'Connor has been called back by the church to serve in her native Ireland. She is well known for her love and dedication to hospital and nursing home patients. She has served the Diocese of St. Petersburg for 18 years. She plans to leave for Ireland in July.
