The National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers presented scholarship awards to Rene Brown and Daniel Chaffee, 1995 graduates of Crystal River High School. NARLEO started the scholarship program in 1993 and rotates scholarships among the county's three high schools.
The Citrus County Association for Family and Community Education Council presented scholarship awards to Dawn Fries of Citrus High School and Ann Haley of Lecanto High School. Dawn and Ann are 1995 graduates.

Veronica Smith and Russell McCranie were named Students of the Month for May by Crystal River High School and West Citrus Elks Lodge 2693. Veronica and Russell graduated from Crystal River High this month. Veronica was a member of the school band, Key Club, student government, softball, Girl Scouts and was a school sports announcer. Her grade point average was 3.5. Veronica was a member of the National Honor Society and Girls State. She has received numerous awards for academic achievement. Veronica plans to attend Florida State University and major in communications. Russell was a member of the National Honor Society, student government, school newspaper, soccer, tennis and golf teams. His grade point average was 3.6. Russell has been honored for his academic and athletic achievements. He plans to attend college and major in business.
Ben Lev, a 1995 graduate of Crystal River High School, was this year's recipient of the Dr. Judith Resnick award. The Citrus County unit of B'nai B'rith, a Jewish service organization, presented the award to the county's outstanding science student. Lev, one of five valedictorians this year at Crystal River High, will study physics at Princeton University. Resnick, a granddaughter of Russian Jewish immigrants, died in the space shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986.
