Express Air keeps edge on Hillendale

Express Air Heating and Cooling did it again in the Hernando County YMCA Women's Softball League, winning for the fourth straight week in games played last Sunday.

Express Air got three hits from Lorraine Schulman and two more each from Barbara Walsh, Darcy Galarneau and Carrie Kosiba in a 12-4 win over Benedetti.

Second-place Hillendale kept the pressure on the leaders by pulling out a 5-4 win over Beef O'Brady's. Hillendale fell behind early and trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh and final inning. In its last at-bat, it pushed three runs across to tie the score, then loaded the bases with two out for Tina Mondock. She rose to the occasion, drilling a single to knock in the winning run and thwart O'Brady's upset bid.

Patty Young and Roma Stone powered the winners with three hits apiece, and headed up the defense at shortstop and second base respectively.

In the only other game Sunday, A.J.'s evened its mark at 2-2 by downing No Idea.

Standings through June 23: Express Air Heating and Cooling 4-0, Hillendale 4-1, A.J.'s 2-2, Beef O'Brady's 2-3, Benedetti 1-4, No Idea 0-3.
