Expressway Authority

The Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority elected officers during its regular business meeting June 26. Ed Melo, an engineer and a businessman, was elected president and James L. Carter Jr., a retired engineering executive, was elected vice chairman. Vanessa Cohn, a lawyer active in local affairs, was elected secretary. The new officers were appointed to the authority by the governor. Other members serving on the authority include Monroe Mack, immediate past-chairman; County Commissioner Joe Chillura; Mayor Dick Greco; and Florida Department of Transportation District Seven Secretary Bill McDaniel. Ray Speer will continue as executive director.

Small business awards

Legal Access Centers of America, Frame Crafters and Pilgrim Software Inc. received the Annual Small Business of the Year award from the Tampa chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). Legal Access Centers is a low-cost, non-lawyer document assistance company. Frame Crafters is a customized producer of art and portrait framework. Pilgrim Software produces software for internally managing a company's computer information system. SCORE annually recognizes small businesses that do an outstanding job in service, retailing and technology.
