More than 18,000 stories were broadcast during prime-time newscasts on the major networks, CNN and PBS in 1994. According to a TV-monitoring advocacy group, only 225 stores focused on religion or religious issues.

In a recent survey of seven major-market newspapers, a university study reported that although religion is widely mentioned in stories, only 25 percent discuss religious beliefs or values.
About 37 percent of all newspaper religion stories deal with political or legal issues. And 75 percent are about Christianity.
Men are mentioned four times more frequently than women in newspaper religion stories.
